PS3 owners finally get the fixes they need with Call of Duty: Black Ops patch 1.04.  Treyarch worked hard to get this update out in response to mounting problems that received complaints from a sizable number of PS3 owners.  This is not to say Xbox 360 users didn’t have issues as well . . .

Update 1.04 is now live for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Hopefully all is well.  Here’s what they fixed:

Issues Addressed:

  • Resolved several issues with parties getting disbanded unexpectedly.
  • Additional measures to prevent the “Transmission error” and other disconnects. This was most likely to occur with large parties where party members had mixed NAT types. (PS3 only)
  • Addressed an issue with VOIP icons not appearing when USB headsets were plugged in prior to game launch. (PS3 only)
  • Updated handling for UPnP-enabled routers to improve matchmaking conditions where users had strict or moderate NAT types. Also added in-game communications so that all players are aware of their NAT type in the Player Match party lobby.
  • Addressed issue that prevented the “Load MP by Default” option from saving when other specific option combinations were set. (Xbox 360 only)
  • Prevention of exploit that allowed players to keep custom classes and killstreaks after prestige.
  • Addressed an issue where Flak Jacket Pro would not always protect against ground fires left by Napalm Strikes.
  • Prevention of users losing their killstreak reward when switching classes at the start of a new round in round-based game modes.
  • Addressed an issue where the incorrect perks would appear when spectating another player under certain circumstances.
  • Added round start explosive delay to China Lake grenade launcher to give it the same round start limitations as other explosives.
  • Contracts will now reset when the player Prestiges.
  • Prevention of Valkyrie rocket exploding upon release under rare conditions.
  • Prevention of Gunship failing to give player full control under rare conditions.
  • Prevention of an issue where a player will get teleported outside the map boundaries under very specific circumstances.
  • Additional security measures to enhance detection and banning capabilities.

Gameplay Tuning:

  • Limit the ability to re-roll supply drops using Hardline Pro to Care Packages only, no other killstreak drops.
  • Added a negative influencer to all spawn points to decrease the chances of spawning near an enemy. This will further improve spawning protection on top of previous updates.
  • Additional sound mix tuning for Ninja Pro users – increased ranges and volume of enemy footsteps, and removed player footstep sounds on concrete material types.
  • Increased headshot multipliers for sniper rifles. Sniper rifles with suppressors equipped will now always be ensured one-shot kill headshots.
  • Subtle increase in sniper rifle accuracy when scoping in.
  • Added a render delay to the red diamond player indicators that appear when controlling the Gunship, Valkyrie Rocket and Chopper Gunner. When a player first spawns, this will not appear for a period of time.
  • Additional minor reductions in knife lunge.

  1. although it has made the ps3 online unplayable due to connection interruption issues all the time, and it even freezes your ps3 on occasion….nice patch lol ;)

The game still sucks with the patch it still takes ages 2 get into a match for me, i keep on getting disconnected and still cant connect to all of my friends sessions and i have 100% connection via ethenet cable -.- ontop of all of that im still pissed as i still cant Qs with snipers as good as mw2 which loads of people said this patch would do. So cant wait for mw3 and to see this shit game get owned PERIOD

  3. this is stupid i dont mind the connection fixes but all the other gameplay is bull all because you get peeps on there that QQ about everything wrong…hey kiddies go and do your homework and let the big boys play.

    • they are leaning towards snipers then for knifers because they understand that being knifed is much more annoying and happens way more often then being quick scoped in this game plus they realized that they over did it on killing the sniper to where no one likes to use it other then me along with maybe 1% of the black ops population

    • How exactly does it ”pander to quickscopers and not to knifers”? Firstly, it is not pandering to QS, which is stupid anyway. Even hardscopers find that for some reason the sniping was slightly off – you would fire right at someone and nothing happened. Secondly, ”knifers”? Everyone is a knifer, and besides the knife range was too random and crappy before because you’d miss from upclose and get stabbed from afar, so that’s what they meant. Or if you are talking about knife only people, good, people hate them.

  7. This game is supposed to be more like “true life” weapons and that’s why they want to get rid of outrageously long knife lunges and QSing. There is no way you can QS in real life with a 30 pound rifle at close range. Stop your whining and get over it. Just play MW2 if that is how you wish to play or learn to use a sniper rifle the right way, how it is used in real life.

      • Snipers are heavy, recoil hurts, dont ever quickscope, and caps isn’t cool. Real life is usually more balanced and fair, hence why they sway in that direction. Black ops is good, it isn’t cheasy and a noob pleaser like MW2. I approve Treyarch.

  9. this update made it virtually impossible for me to get into a match, and even when i do get into a match, it seems like you never get a full match with no disconnects or host changes. parties are more or less incapable of finding matches even more so than when you play individually. it’s as if they took every element of the online that was buggy like matchmaking and parties and made it so that instead just happening once in a while IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME! so my question is, how the hell did this happen? what made this patch ok for release? it fucked the online in the ass so hard its damn near broken!

  10. Yay! Fixing sniping while making QSing unreliable! Goodjob Treyarch! And no more cheap knifing, I dont mind knifing, however what they had it as was a little too much. Conection problems are bound to happen, deal with it, your just unlucky. It comes with every game. Black ops is much more balanced, which is why anybody decent or above is actually finding it fairly entertaining, while those that use the unrealistic unbalanced unfair techniques are usually complaining. Treyarch is good, and not to mention, this is their what fourth patch so far? GOOD response from treyarch. Keep it up :) And kids shut up.

I just find it really funny that everybody screams “snipers are made to be more realistic in this game”, yet those same people complain about snipers camping. and if you want to talk about recoil and accuracy, youre heavy machine gun should not be able to pick me off from across a map while a person is crouched behind a wall. If you want to play the “it’s more realistic” card, apply it to everything. the sniping is horrible in this game. While i dont mind the maps that are clearly aimed against sniping, i find it hard to believe that on top of that dip that the scope does, if you do shoot somebody chances are it will take more than 1 hit. case in point, my accuracy with the top sniper rifle is 64%, yet my kdr with is is .82. lol

    • Actually, the pros, as in the real people who actually kill for a living, pick off from a distance. There is no such thing as running in and clearing a room in the real world. So, assault rifles should be decent for mid to long-range, sense CoD doesnt provide any true long range, Assault rifles and sub-machine guns would be the obvious of choice for the best situational guns. The more than 1shot snipe to the chests though, i happen to agree with you there. They need to fix that, for all sniper. Arms and legs? Sure, 2 shots. Chest? Ya right.

    let me just name any unrealistic things in black ops so you can see that
    if it was realistic, the game would be boring.

    1. Snipers are waaaaaay underpowered. a single shot to the foot with that type of caliber would amputate the foot, if not, he would bleed out anyway.

    2. tomahawk hitting your little-finger is lethal in this game, becaus if
    it wasnt lethal there, the tomahawk would be useless.

    3. all weapons should kill in 1 hit, but that would bee very boring.

    4. noscope should be totally accurate, because the accuracy doesn’t change just because u see through the scope.

    5. knife lunge?

    6. shotgun range is really short compared to real-life…

    7. more recoil for weapons, because its not realistic to shoot strait forward with an ak47…

    to make the game more BALANCED they would have to make the snipers more accurate and powerful, because compared to other weapons, they are pretty much useless.
    give smg’s lmg’s and assault-rifles more recoil.
    remove noobtubes and rpg’s completly from the game.
    At this moment i’ll consider to call it a balanced game.

    • I agree with you completely, however they are trying to pick a fair medium between balanced and realistic. Hip-fire sniper’s would shoot forawrd, but goodluck keeping it straight. I dont agree with the knife lunge, tho they did lower it. Profesionals (which in this game, where spec ops and black ops profesionals) die in 2-3 hits to the chest. Shotgun iscompletely for balance, cus otherwise you would be right, it would be overpowered :) And the tomahawk killzone glitches because of slight input lag. And profesionals dont have that much recoil, although a little more, not that much.

Like WTH? If 10 people were lined up and i hit the first in the nose itd go through all their fucking skulls and kill all 10 of them. I have a vid on nuketown where i shot a guy from one house to another 5 fucking times back to back right after my guy pulled the bolt back. 4 shots went to the head and 1 to the shoulder. I just dont understand it… I dont think you are going to live with a fucking 4 inch bullet in ur skull – Let alone having 5 4-inch bullets in ur skull. If they want realism and balance, they should + the snipers and – the other fucking guns. For example: I dont think you are going to be running around with a lmg noscoping ppl. ur arm would fucking fall off from all the recoil. case in point: this game is fucking horrible so far. i bought it cuz i was expecting HUGE improvements. pick it up treyarch ur fucking slacking like shit.

        • I agree that one shot kills should be the norm in black ops as long as they hit Center of Mass…however it kindof bugged me that you said four inch bullets…you know the bullet that gets shot is maybe 2 inches for a 50 cal…the whole shell with the bullet in it would be closer to your four inches…not trolling just thought you ought to know…
