Alexander Egorenkov, better known as by his Graf_chokolo handle, is under fire once again by Sony and its legal team. Egorenkov, whose home was raided under court order, is now being sued for what he did in retaliation to Sony’s seizure. He released all his tools for hacking the PS3 known collectively as the Hypervisor Bible, and the proverbial shitstorm commenced as Sony slapped him with a large lawsuit.

Here’s what he had to say on the matter unedited, verbatim, and without corrections:

“The SONY’s laywer asked me why I’m doing what I’m doing, because of my hatred for SONY? He cannot understand why I’m doing it, because he is paid for what he does. I’m not. I don’t hold a grudge against SONY even now Hatred clouds your mind, keeps you from more important things. I have a better use for my mind and knowledge.

“So, SONY you failed again, you took my equipment but my mind is still free and you canot (sic) control it. You failed again. They are just tools, I can get new ones and will continue my HV reversing and bringing back PS3 Linux which you took from us. If you want me to stop then you should just kill me because I cannot live without programming, HV and Linux kernel hacking You know who am I and where I live, so come and get me!!!”

and so the inaugural Balls of Steel award has to go to this guy. It seems unlikely that Sony will be able to get money out of Egorenkov, but more likely that Sony is trying to scare other hackers into submission.

  1. I hate asshat programmers like this guy who thinks its ok to mess around with other peoples programs in the knowledge that their work will cause alot of grief for people.

  2. A very immature hacker. This guy thinks that he can do whatever he wants without consequence. I also resent how Sony has handled this situation…I hope that only the righteous hackers win…if they are any…

  3. Stupid guy. really is stupid! if he indeed has such knowledge he is wasting it. Clearly a dumbass!. im all for sony in this one

  4. You guys are really immature! The quest of this hacker is noble, he is trying to return a feature that Sony unrightful took away from users. Sure that feature was unused by 98% of our userbase, but for those us that did use that feature are rightfully more than a little angry that it was taken away!

      • And you clearly live amongst capitalist pigs who suck the souls from the working public. He’s standing up against the power, taking back what was promised and doing so for the good of many. Get your lips off the corporate cock and maybe your brain will be free of the effects of it’s spooge.

  5. “You know who am I and where I live, so come and get me!!!”

    They did.

Honestly though this guy is an idiot.

Also Matt? As long as Sony can stop the hackers its a win and if they don’t sue they he’ll just do it again. So Sony will carry on this case regardless of money.

    • You’re right, Sony won’t back down. Even if they deter him, others will take his place.

The issue is with Sony’s security on their console and until that’s fixed, no lawsuit is going to stop the hacking.

  6. He pretty much did what sony wanted him to do. this guy is toast. releasing your hacks online so that people can use it to pirate in response to the raid pretty much shows that you are guilty.

  7. Frankly its hard to have sympathy for these people, its not about getting Linux back, its about opening up the system to piracy. Frankly these people need to grow up.

Alex and George just come across as sociopaths.

    • Ahh, the truth according to you. Technically though, it’s an opinion put in your mouth by a dollar, so it doesn’t surprise me that you didn’t put any thought into what you were saying. You don’t know everything – you’re just eating up what you’ve been told by these corporate giants. If you don’t understand the concept of homebrew programming, then I can’t explain it you here. It’s not all about piracy, so you need to grow up and realize that everything that you believe isn’t the truth.

  8. It’s kind of hard to sympathize with Sony here, they are behaving not only immaturely but by bending the rules and hiding their actions behind the facade of the law.

Sony never gave those of us who invested in Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 the chance to be gamers and use Linux after the 3.15 firmware update.

We supposedly had the chance to choose either Linux or no PSN, now no PSN is fine, I think PSN is a low class online service anyway (it’s free so that’s a fair call) but Sony stopped us from being able to give PSN the flick and still use our Yellow Dog Linux distro mainly because if we buy newer games, they have mandatory firmware updates on disc.

It’s been ever since this fiasco that I stopped being a PS3 gamer.

I’m all for the hackers enabling me what I paid for, I’m against piracy but all of us in the know are well aware graf_chokolo much like fail0verflow and even Geohot never enabled piracy, it was the others after these guys who paved the way for backup loaders and what not.

Even the use of those tools is legal in particular countries across the planet (games backed up which you own).

  9. Boy, I’ve never seen so many idiots. Hackers are the same as lock pickers. How would you feel if one day a lock picker came to your house, crack the lock then tell everyone else how to lock pick all the locks in your house?
Can you still say he’s doing a good job or will you call the cops?

FACT that you all must know. The U.S. Air force is using the PS3 for their radar. They sure have a custom OS running in every PS3 that they have. Surely, their hackers already found a way to crack the PS3 so they can use it according to their need. So, why didn’t Sony sue them but instead supplied them with more PS3s? It’s because of TRUST!
Sony trusts them not to exploit the PS3 to the world from their hacking. Now that is legal hacking. Was there any damage done to Sony? NONE! Because, what they knew and do, they kept it to themselves. Unlike these hackers who exposed everything to the world.
They like to hack, that’s fine. They want to try if they are smart enough to crack it. But when they showed everyone how to do it. Now, that’s illegal.

These guys wanted glory, they wanted attention, they wanted money from the pirates who are willing to buy their methods, the linux OS is just a stupid excuse. Plain and simple

  10. “Balls of Steel Award?”

Both my brother and I read his full blog post. He’s crazy. I was thinking that to myself, and my brother got done and told me “I think he has a mental illness.” He’s extremely intelligent at what he does, but he is clearly missing some cogs up there.

  11. You know what? I actually agree with what this guy said on his blog……Sony SHOULD just have him killed and get it over with. This guy and the rest of the scumbag hackers out there do nothing but try and cheat their way to an easy life whilst making things worse for the rest of us, they’re nothing but worthless wastes of Oxygen.

And the funny thing is nobody would care! We all know that theese hackers are complete social retards who spend 24 hours a day in a dark room with no outside life whatsoever, if theese guys just “Dissapeared” one day I doubt anyone would even care enough to try and find them. Theese dirtbags have nobody that cares about them, they might as well be dead.

    • I hope you’re just being sarcastic, because that’s not even remotely funny!

How about we all kill YOU! After all, you’re just a person posting here on a gaming internet site. No one cares about people like you. You might as well be dead.

God, you’re a sick human being if you seriously want such a thing to happen to someone who didn’t murder or rape anyone.

  12. You guys have accomplished nothing so shit on someone who has.

The fact that you all would betray liberty implies that you don’t deserve it and should feel lucky to have any of it.
