Let’s face it, most games that are based on movies… suck.   However, when it comes to bucking that trend, the Transformers do it as only they can, big, bold and bad ass.

If you skipped over the last Transformers game – you missed out.  War for Cybertron was surprisingly awesome and was almost universally well received. Luckily, Activision and High Moon are sticking to the formula and releasing a follow up game to coincide with the new Transformers movie – Dark of The Moon.  However, there’s more than meets the eye with this game. It’s not just a movie tie in, in fact it’s a prologue to the new movie and actually expands upon the Transformers lore. Oh, and did I mention you get to play as fsn favorites like Starscream, Soundwave, Ironhide, Megatron and of course, Optimus Prime? Yeah, but I’ll get to that later.

The game’s premise is based around the events after Revenge of the Fallen that lead into Dark of the Moon.  Megatron is recovering, and a war is still raging.  You will playas  both Autobots and Decepticons, and the game features all the 3rd person robo-mayhem you could ask for.  Running around sonic booming as Soundwave?  Hell yes. Driving around at top speed as Bumblebee in sexy Chevy Camaro form?  Hell yes. Turning into a jet as Starscream and actually engaging in dogfights that look like they came straight out of Afterburner?  OH HELL YES.

I Scream, You Scream - We All Scream For Starscream

The reason why these game seem so fun and simple is just that.  They’re fun and simple.  You rampage around different missions as your favorite Autobots and Decepticons, you can change from car/truck to robot at any time, and the gameplay is solid.   There’s no secret formula here – it’s just a solid Transformers game. Badass is the only word that can be used to describe it.  If you’re in it for the lore because it’s a prequel to the upcoming film, then you’re also in luck because High Moon has really fleshed out the storylines of each character for you Transformer-nerds.   Personally, I’m not that into the story, but did I mention you could play as Starscream and transform into a f**king jet!?

There’s also a new “Stealth Force” mode which lets you engage in vehicle combat without fully Transforming back into full bipedal robot mode.  You know, like Twisted Metal, just in case this game couldn’t get any more badass.

Don't Make Me Transform Into a Big Block Chevy...I'll Do It!!

Last but not least check out this latest trailer. If you’re still not sold, then I’m sure there’s a Hello Kitty game somewhere with your name on it.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be released shortly before the film.

Stay tuned to RipTen for continued coverage of Dark of The Moon.  The game… not the film.

  1. Back when I single handily stopped child abuse by changing my Facebook profile pic to a cartoon character, it was Starscream. True story.

  2. The game play – and even the story, which was much better than Michael Bay’s rendition (!) – was impressive; my 6 year-old nephew and I played for hours. Due to these guys finally getting it right, I am positive I will be buying the Dark of the Moon game as soon as it comes out next year…
