On top of the news of the NDA being lifted, BioWare today confirmed the oft referenced mythical ‘Legacy System’ for Star Wars: The Old Republic would indeed be integrated into the game.

In its initial stage, the Legacy System will allow the following:

  • Once your character has completed their Chapter 1 storyline, they will be able to choose a Legacy Last Name. This Legacy Last Name must be unique and is shared across all characters, on all servers – so choose carefully!
  • Once you have unlocked your Legacy, any and all characters on that server will now contribute to that player’s Legacy Experience Points. Much like normal experience points, when you reach certain Legacy thresholds, you will increase yourLegacy Level.

Players can choose to display their Legacy name as their last name, display it below their name (so it reads like a title), or to hide it completely. This choice can vary between characters.

This is only the first iteration of the feature, with BioWare intending to add additionally functionality post-launch, including the ability to shape your Legacy’s family tree, and give you a reward for each Legacy level.

  1. Sounds like a great feature to keep track of alt in a certain guild for example. Don’t think I will be picking this up at launch, but if it keep going out of the gate I will be glad to be a latecomer to the potential party.
