According to Yoshinori Kitase, a producer for the original Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X for the PS3 and the Vita won’t just be a HD remaster, but a complete remake. Rejoice, Final Fantasy X fans, in knowing that you won’t be paying good money for something that looks and plays the exact same way with some upgraded shaders… although now there’s the possibility that Final Fantasy X the remake could be something you absolutely hate.

Despite the remake being announced at the Tokyo Game Show back in September 2011, the project is still in its early stages and Kitase’s role in the project is still unclear. However, he assures fans that the remake will match the quality of the original.

I really hope so, Mr. Kitase. I really hope so. I’d really hate for a new generation of Final Fantasy X fans to play the remake, dislike it, and think that that’s all Final Fantasy X is. But, then again, it could do just the opposite. I have my hopes and I’m quite interested to see what if the remake will keep Final Fantasy X‘s original leveling system intact, or if Square Enix will opt for something different. Will the Final Fantasy X remake keep to the old turn-based RPG combat system that the old Final Fantasies were known for, or something a little more active?

    • Exactly. I mean… the entire time we got “Oh… it would take far too long to remake FFVII from scratch” and now we’re getting a FFX remake ? 0_o

It kind of makes me weary. Remakes aren’t always guaranteed… as companies like to take liberties with what they think is important to keep and what isn’t.

    • It would take a long time to remake FFVII and the cost of remaking it too and just be glad they are doing a remake of a good Final Fantasy game. Its not hard to remake PS2 games. The generations between the PS3 and PS1 are to far apart

    • Probably because the game is so beloved. I bet Square Enix is too afraid to touch it. If they do, it’d be like a ticking time bomb. Some would love it… and others would give them MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF HATE.

  1. Why can’t they spend their resources making new games instead of cashing in and expending time and resources on old games…

    • Because they like making money. No one has liked the Last effort in the FF series, so they need to make money and do research before developing a new one, this will quell want, and make the money at the same time.

  2. Don’t you people realize that seeing how Final Fantasy X is remade will show you exactly what they would do to Final Fantasy VII? Didn’t Kitase also admit if VII was remade that he would have to change things on it to keep up with the times? That doesn’t disturb anyone who keeps blabbing about a remake of VII? Let’s also remember all of the new crap S.E. added to VII (Crisis Core, DoC, ETC) that would require alteration of the original VII (I’m looking at you Genesis). Also some of you are forgetting the fact that VII and X are completely different. It would be easier to remake X than it would VII because VII’s environment was way more expansive than X’s more linear pathways and the side quests and extras in VII were more detailed and probably more time consuming to recreate than the ones from X. Someday I bet you folks will get what you’ve been asking for and when you do and it sucks because Kitase decided to turn it into a first or third person linear shooter because JRPGs are not hip anymore, don’t say I didn’t tell you so. I say let’s first see what happens with the remake of X then we will talk about remaking older games (Final Fantasy V, VI, VIII, and IX exist guys, the RPG world doesn’t revolve around VII for those of you with a one track mind).

  3. If they touch the battle system or Sphere Grid and change either of them for something else then it’ll be terrible… A remake should be a remake not use the same story and change it into something completely different… This was the reason I was getting the PSVita… Now i’m reconsidering after this announcement..

    • You would seriously not buy a system due to one game? What a ridiculous thing to base your purchase on… seriously, grow up. People release bad games all the time, you’d never be able to buy anything…

  4. Why are they remaking FFX?  One of the main series Final Fantasy games that’s ALREADY IN FULL 3D!!  What is the freaking point?

    Remake VI!
    Remake VII!
    Remake IX!
    Remake V!
    Remake FFT for the PS3!

Anything but X!  Why X?  You might as well remake XII!  What are you THINKING?

    • Because of the cost and time it would take to remake those games. FFX would be easier to remake cause of the tech involved. There is a big difference in tech involved from PS1 to PS3
