The Call of Duty games aren’t exactly known for their stories. You’re pretty much a faceless, voiceless dude, and the story reflects that. Someone at Guinness World Records thought otherwise, however, because Call of Duty: Black Ops has received the award for best ending in a video game. Yes, seriously.

For the Guinness 2012 World Records Gamer’s Edition Book, Guinness let fans vote on the 50 best video game endings, and the 13,519 fans came up with Black Ops’ ending. Second place is Halo: Reach‘s ending, where you fight to survive against the Covenant as long as you can. Other endings include Red Dead Redemption, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, and Crysis 2. Nothing against the games mentioned, but some of these don’t have endings that are considered top quality. I mean, Force Unleashed II? Seriously?

You can check the full list below, and while you’re at it, why not tell us some of your favorite endings?

  1. Prince of Persia should be on this list. I understand not many people played it, but going through the realms defeating the 4 (or was it 5?) bosses to put the evil back underneath that magical tree, only to cut the tree down because the Prince ended up falling in love with Elika was an excellent ending. He would rather cause pain and suffering to a lot of people in order keep her in his life. Just like her father did when he originally cut down the tree releasing the evil.

If you ever get the chance, I would honestly recommend playing this game. If not for the story at least for the easy achievements. It looked great with their “illustrative design that looks more like a painting come to life” as the developer would say.

The game was Prince of Persia on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

  2. Worst list ever…….
This new generation of kids are disappointing….. They might as well have voted Angry Birds as best ending……..
I don’t want to live in this world anymore T__T…….

  3. I’m so glad that my faith in humanity already died, otherwise this would have killed it. The stupidity of some people makes me wish all people below a certain IQ were sealed away from the rest of society. Lol. Call of duty doesn’t have a single aspect that’s even acceptable (aside from keeping the idiots who like it out of other games).

  4. What do you mean ‘faceless, voiceless dude’? In Black Ops, you finally get a voice for once.

And you know what? That game actually had a good story, even though it was told in a shorter period of time than it should’ve. The ending wasn’t the best I’ve seen, but it was still good.

Personally, I think there shouldn’t be things like this, as it creates too many rabid fans and ‘haters’. They should’ve just listed the games instead of giving them places.

  6. Fucking hell do people vote for stupid things just because they like the game. Half Life 2, Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2, hell even Portal 2 have real, good endings. But Black Op’s? No wonder Scientists say our brains are shrinking now instead of growing. Stupid trendy cliche sheep people are fucking up the world.

  7. I am disappoint…

I mean, come on! I admit I like the story from Black Ops, quite a bit, in fact, but in no way does it deserve the top spot. Not with games like KOTOR, Mass Effect, Kingdom Hearts, Ocarina of Time, and others on this list.

  8. What da hell?! At first i thought this list would be good, because to me, Black ops had one of the greatest story lines and endings of any game ive played… its so creative and so much better than the other dull Modern warfare storylines… Black Ops was a brilliant game…Then i saw the rest of this list…Modern warfare 2 got 4th place?! A boring same old storyline like that? What the hell?! Why is Assassins creed so far back?! And Uncharted 2? Portal 2?Infamous? Oblivion?! Why isnt F.E.A.R 2 on this list? There are so many problems with the order. They got the games mostly right (excluding MW1+2) just in the completely wrong order… Im certain they didnt ask expert gamers for this list, or even regular gamers…
