In the wake of a few weeks of negativity in gaming, for the most part, Front Towards Gamer is gearing up for a donation marathon for Operation Supply Drop. Basically, OSD is designed to get games out to our troops stationed around the world. I would try to do the charity event justice by paraphrasing here, but I think this is so important that I will just post the information straight off their web page. Regardless of your stance on war and the politics surrounding it, the troops are no different than you and me, so sending them something to have a little fun while they are stationed is something you should be behind. For those of you that like a little chance for a kick-back from your donation, prizes are going to be sent off to winners that participate in their raffle. Visit the site here and here. Without further ado, here is the full information:
It is here! Front Towards Gamer has weathered through two years of spambots and griefers to come out smelling like roses, and we’re going to celebrate with what we do best: binge gaming session to raise money for Operation Supply Drop (building video game care packages for troops deployed to Afghanistan)!
The event is taking part in two phases:
Friday, March 30th 8PM-11PM EST: Front Towards Gamer premieres on the Xbox Live dashboard as the Xbox Live community playdate! That’s right, the Xbox Live dashboard. We’re going to be playing multiplayer Mass Effect 3 in an effort to grind out those time consuming “Master and Commander” and “Defender” achievements with folks you can actually tolerate! However, this is only the appetizer to the seven course meal that follows Saturday morning.
Saturday, March 31st 8AM-Sunday, April 1st, 8AM: Front Towards Gamer gets its La-z-boy on with a 24 hour gaming marathon. The focus is Xbox 360, but we also have folks who will be attempting to rally gaming sessions together on the PS3 and even PC (god bless ‘em!). Our current lineup is as follows:
12pm-3pm – War Block – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3/Battlefield 3 (Xbox/PS3)
3pm-6pm – Aliens Block – Gears of War 3 (Xbox) Halo Reach (Xbox) Resistance 3 (PS3)
6pm-9pm – Super Hero Block – Gotham City Impostors (Xbox/PS3)
9pm-12am – Driving Block – Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit/Blur (Xbox/PS3)
12am-3am – Free For All Editor’s/Community Choice (L4D2, Street Fighter, Brink, Bulletstorm, etc)
3am-6am – Horde Space Block – Mass Effect 3, (Xbox/PS3) Gears of War 3 (Xbox)
6am-9am – War Block – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3/Battlefield 3 (Xbox/PS3)
9am-12pm – Final Stretch Free For All
So how does the “raising money for charity” piece factor in? We’re going to be raffling off some donated gear from folks like Astro, Popcap, Ubisoft, Bioware, and THQ at selected intervals to our US and Canada fans (depending on the number of donations; remember, we’re here to raise donations, not spend a bunch of cash on shipping prizes out). The current rate per raffle ticket is $3, and you can buy as many as you’d like to secure a pretty awesome piece of swag. Let’s face it, we’re not THAT big of a website, your chances of walking away with something are pretty high. Can’t attend the event because that jerk of a boss of yours put you down for a double shift at the fake dog poo plant? No problem, as long as you donated, you can still take place in the drawing!
Oh, and someone is going to be walking away with this:
That, my friend, is a $279 Astro Gaming A40 wireless gaming headset, sent to us by our friends at Astro. I’ve got the wired version of the headset, and that thing is like the Porsche of headsets, so I can only imagine how awesome the wireless version are.
We’ll be posting the rest of the swag give away list a it comes in, but I figured we’d lead with something heavy right out of the gate to show we are absolutely not screwing around.
Well, how does one make a donation? Three simple ways to donate:
1) Use the Chipin link on the front of Front Towards Gamer.com. OR
2) Use the Chipin link on the front page of Operation Supply Drop.org. OR
3) Make a Paypal donation to email@example.com.
I Want to Play with You Guys!
Aww…we want to play with you as well! Here’s where you can find some of our staffers on Xbox for both events:
Xbox Live Gamertags:
We’ll be adding further details like Gamertags, PSN IDs, Steam handles, Gamecenter names (hey, got to get a round of Hero Academy in there). Have no fear, the day of the event we will be coordinating through some folks of Tiny chat or Justin.tv or some such, so always report back to this page for details!
Want to see where your donation money is going to? Operation Supply Drop, Front Towards Gamer’s charity wing, is putting together a video game care package for a medic of an engineering platoon in Kandahar, Afghanistan (care package code name: BIRTHDAY CAKE). Come help us support the troops!
This is a great opportunity to give back to the troops while getting your game on.
