Every day is one day closer to the release of Dead or Alive 5.  While the critical reviews of Ninja Gaiden 3 have given me a tiny bit of concern, I still have faith in Tecmo Koei that they will make DoA 5 great.  A user on neogaf looked into the demo files (or some computer ninja action) and found the full roster for the upcoming fighter.  Here it is:

Pai
Sarah
Akira
Mila
Rig
Bayman
Hitomi (ed: bold added based on importance of character)
Christie
Brad
Lisa
Eliot
Ayane
Leifang
Hayate
Kokoro
Bass
Leon
Helena
Genfu
Kasumi
Hayabusa
Jannlee
Tina
Zack
Alpha152

Mila and Rig are new names to the series.  I am currently going through the DoA title for 3DS again and will let you know if they make any mention of these characters.  The series is as well known for it’s crazy stories as it is for it’s women, but I’m gonna try to get through the story again to see if they hint at them in any way. But Hitomi is in there, so really, who cares about the rest?

If you would like an early look at the controls and set up of the DoA series, specificaly for the 5th entry, visit the online manual here.  Also – 4 characters are up on the site with a little background, if you are interested.

Oh – one final thing! If you would like a chance to start practicing, we have a few codes to give out for PS3, simply leave us a memory from a previous DoA title in the comments below and we will choose winners soon.

(Editors note: The codes have been distributed to the lucky commenters. Please keep sharing the stories, though. Chris is making a list of you all so he can take you on when the full version arrives.)

  1. best memories i have are with doa4 online, and when i was struggle to become good with the game first few months , lots of fun and after that too :) so far from all fighting games DOA become my favorite.

  2. The first DOA I ever played was Paradise on PSP. Yeah… that… really wasn’t a fighting game, but then I bought the 3DS one and had lots of fun playing it. Seems that DOA 5 will be even better!

  3. A fond DOA memory I have is getting DOA4 when it first came out and playing through it unlocking everything only to succumb to the bug the game had when recognizing another gamertag. I had to do all that hard work all over again.

  5. Losing over and over and over to “Crazy Jello Bitch” as me and all my friends referred to her as. Not to mention me getting better at the game despite the drinking “handicap”

  6. I threw my copy (inside the case) of DOA2Hardcore at my cousin that made him lose balance and tumble down a flight of stairs, one weekend. That’s honestly the most memorable thing that comes to mind :P

  7. My memory is of DOA4 when I was online. One day I picked Tina and the player was Lisa and
we were on the bridge, The person that had Lisa dodged, and I body splashed out the broken part of the bridge. Funniest time ever!

  8. I absolutely love this series!

I always loved fighting games but my passion for them never grew as much as when I first played Dead or Alive 3. It was a hidden gem amongst the games that came with my original Xbox.

Now though, I think the most fun I ever had with Dead or Alive was when Ultimate first came out. I still remember it clearly. I had been waiting for the game for what seemed months, and when the day the game came out finally arrived it was a rainy day and I was stuck in school the whole day thinking of the moment when I would finally be able to play. I was finally going to be able to relive what many others had before me, my first game had been # 3, and coincidentally a new version of 1 and 2 were about to be released, I was not going to miss it and couldn’t way any longer. My class ended, and I went right to the game store to pick up DoA Ultimate.

Once I got it I rushed home to play it and I was in for a surprise. Although I was disappointed some characters were missing such as Brad Wong and Christie I quickly found out the wait for the game had been well worth it. It was beautifully created.

The intro movie alone was simply hypnotizing. Everything from DoA3 had started to make sense and the cinematic was highly entertaining to watch touching on various emotions of the characters. One simply couldn’t help feeling bad for Ayane and in away, also Kasumi.

This is one I first started using Ayane and mastered her moves, soon enough, my local competition was not enough and I started playing online; the variety of costumes always allowed for a diverse match to occur. The competition online was tough, but it only made me learn and use new moves until I was just as competitive as anyone else. My most favorite time was learning about Ayane’s life, making her my favorite character, and becoming a pretty decent DoAer.

Ever since, I’ve followed DoA, Tecmo, and the storyline of the game. Now, I can’t wait for DoA 5.

    What to expect next

First DoA presented Kasumi. Second could arguably be put to various characters. Third was definitely about Ayane, Fourth featured Helena as the starlette. And now the fifth will have Hitomi as the main character? Give me a “freaking yes!”

PS. I’ve never really gotten how some people think the game has no story. =x

  9. i remember when i had doa 3 i was young and my older brother would always beat and i would get mad because he would always make faces and talk crap finally i got pissed and actually faught him like i was brad wong. its funny now that i think about it, itsone of my favorite memories.

  10. DOA 4… 7 years… ago… (Hitomi flashback; Thane Krios Style)… Undescribable…Uncommunicatable… gimme the CODE…. Hitomiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! (Flashback ends)… Going to sleep… (email me the code)

  11.  My memory is picking up DoA4 and having no idea how to play. Graphics were amazing, which gave me reason to mash through it.

    •  that’s a stupid reason to like a game graphics do not make a game good, the game is good because it is the only fighting game of its kind.

  12. It was “Blazed Up Melpomene”, Helena’s DOA2 theme, that made me go on a quest to hunt this game when I was a child. I was maybe… 5 at the time? I believe it was early 2000… anyways, I played the demo on the dreamcast, and all I could remember was a woman with blonde hair in a bow, and that auditorium in which I repeatedly lost. I was at gamestop one day (when I was in 6th grade) and something told me to look at a certain game. When I picked it up, I saw the back, I saw that woman with blonde hair, that red jacket looking thing, and most importantly, her hair was in a bow. Without much hesitation, I bought the game, scored, and fell in love with the title. I thank Helena for making me love DOA.I shared this similar story on a youtube video showcasing her song, and if I do get chosen as the winner… how will I know? I don’t have an account for this site. I just do my daily routine of stalking any news about DOA5 withing the past 24 hours and I came across this site. I’m a true fan :)

  14. My first DOA experience was DOA3. I loved the tag team matches. 2 players can co-op and fight the preset computer teams. I was sad that tag team was not a big part in DOA4.

  15. My favorite memory of Dead or Alive 3, by far, was when I was only 9 years old. Transitioning from Super Smash Bros. to a fighting game, was never on my mind, until I was introduced to Ayane. My favorite character in the series, I played her to become one of the best DoA players I know. Which, probably isn’t much, since I represent Dead or Alive even in ANCHORAGE, ALASKA, USA. With 5 coming out, I’m ready to return to the series hardcore. ALL DAY AYANE!

  16. my favorite memory…

walking through gamestop and seeing a game titled DOA2:hardcore…

having no idea what it was i picked it up…and BAM!! instant dead or alive fan was made ;]

  17. running from gamestop to gamecrazy from gamestop to gamecrazy looking for a used copy of DOA3, extreme, and ultimate. AND I FOUND THEM ALL at different locations!!! >:DDDDDD

  18. My favorite memory was from dead or alive 4. One of my friends thought they were all cool because they “mastered” Dead or Alive 4. he is one of those cocky types you know? Well, I didn’t tell him that I have been playing that game and have gotten somewhat good myself. As he was going on his rant about smoking some dude on Dead or Alive 4. He then asked if anybody would want to play him and no one said anything. He then offered a prize of $10, which was good money back in the 5th grade, to anyone who could beat him. I said alright, and him, not knowing that I have played this game before, accepted this challenge. So it was after school and I went over to his house. We picked our characters, I picked Ryu while he picked Kasumi. The match had begun. It was a 5 round match with no time limit. I didn’t want him to know that I was any good so I let him win the first two rounds. Once he said “You suck man.” It was all over for him. I wiped the floor clean with him accept for one round where we were neck and neck but I sneezed which let him get the final blow. But in the end I won and got the $10. My friend never spoke about being good on Dead or ALive again.

  19.  The best memory for me was the fight between Ryu Hayabusa and Jann Lee. Easily, the best fight of all time between the master ninja and the king of martial arts. It shows us the honour and respect which the fighters have, for one another.

  20. Fought the #1 online player in DOAU (Master) with Hitomi and won convincingly. I then proceeded to get tooled every match there after, but I did win one match with my main Hitomi!!

  21. doa on the dreamcast made a killin back then but my fav is Jann Lee but i love the way they gave him more moves in part 4 cant wait to see 5

  22. My memory: my first time playing dead or alive 5 in my hometown NY. My friend introduced it to me. That day I  knew I had found the perfect fighting game. I still have my ps2 along with the game. To this day in 2012 I still play and await the next games arrival. GOD BLESS THE DAY I PICKED UP THAT CONTROLLER!!!!

  23. my favvorite memory is going over my friend’s house and playing for the 1st time and destroying hime, it was even more epic because he was talking tons of trash and i kicked his ass!!!  I would glady take on all challengers, I’m getting the ps3 version as well so when it comes out challenge me.  my psn name is bigren09

  24. Favorite memory: The intensity of Watching Helena’s story in DOA2 plus always playing those Tag team battles and finding all the possible combos.

  25. Well this is a strange one but i always remember playing DOA4 and playing with Kasumi with some music on in the background and button mashing just for sheer fun. and getting addicted to learning how to cover new moves. Not the best memory but im glad to share :)
