You may remember that last Thursday, news surfaced of a special announcement to be made by the developer of The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, CD Projekt RED, this week.

Polish website found an advertisement in a Polish newspaper featuring box art for The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition. What caught their eye was that both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 box art was featured. According to the website, when they contacted the newspaper to inquire about the advertisement, they learned that it was not simply an error:

“Interestingly, after attempting to resolve the matter with the artists they told newspapers that he is not a mistake. Does Witcher 2 will also appear on the PS3? Quite possibly …”

Now, the website was subjected to poor Google translation, but it seems clear enough that the newspaper advertisement was not incorrect.

CD Projekt previously stated that, though it would have liked to port The Witcher 2 to PS3, they just didn’t have the manpower to make it happen. Is it possible that they found the manpower and began working on a PS3 port without anyone knowing? This is all speculation: we’ll have to wait until Thursday to see what CD Projekt really has to tell us, but in the meantime, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

What about you guys? Anyone hoping for a PS3 port of The Witcher 2?

  1. That would be very cool. TW2 is a SUPERB game, the likes of which all gamers (regardless of owned systems) should experience. I don’t know if they’ll be announcing an already (far?) in progress version of the PS3 port or rather a ‘just starting’ production announcement for the system. Either way, like I said, great for gamers all around…. If that is indeed the announcement.
