Another day, another rumor. Though all we’ve seen thus far is a trailer and logo, Grand Theft Auto V is at the top of many gamers’ most anticipated lists. If a recent slip by a Rockstar employee is any indication, we may not have to wait much longer.
A character animator for Rockstar North, Alex O’Dwyer, originally posted on his LinkedIn profile and CV that the next entry in the GTA series is set to release this October. Though the info is gone from his LinkedIn and his CV has been taken down, this leak should still be taken with a grain of salt, considering O’Dwyer is not an executive and may simply be estimating the release date for his own resume.
Rockstar’s prior release schedule could indicate this is in fact the real possibility, as Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas all released in October. Recently, however, Rockstar has taken a different release window, launching Grand Theft Auto IV in April of 2008, and Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, and the upcoming Max Payne 3 have or will hit stores in May.
Considering Max Payne 3 is releasing this year and Rockstar does not have much of a tendency to release two major franchises in a single calendar year, a release next year sounds more likely. If GTA V happens to be complete this October though, I’m sure most of us would not complain. What else are we going to play the week between BioShock: Infinite and Assassin’s Creed III anyway?
