Sony today officially confirmed a new entry in the God of War series. Titled God of War: Ascension, the game (from the sounds of it) will be a prequel to the already established cannon. This speculation comes from a teaser trailer that was released on Amazon [via IGN], where a voiceover by the Titan Gaia states that:

“There was a time before Kratos became the monster known as the Ghost of Sparta…”

In addition to that, the official announcement trailer has gone up on the God of War website. Again, featuring little more than a voiceover by Gaia, the announcement trailer suggests that God of War: Ascension will take place before the already established events of the series. Given just how much of Greek mythology Kratos has already torn his way through, it will be interesting to see in just what direction Sony takes the story of the next entry into the series, but they have announced that this will be the most ambitious entry in the franchise yet.
