If you’ve been playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the PC platform, chances are you have played (or have considered playing) one of the numerous user-created modification packs that are available. Thanks to the creativity of the creators and the long wait time for any official downloadable content from Bethesda, the total downloads for these modifications is over 13.6 million on Steam. This goes to show that you should never underestimate the insatiable appetites of the fan base for new content.

We had previouly written about a few of the notable mods, highlighting not only the technical prowess of the mod creators but the imagination that they put into creating them. One such mod has the player, quite literally, beating a dead horse in an add-on to an existing mod that is popular with players. Another mod adds an entirely new gameplay mode to the proceedings; tower defense. We previously reported on this and it was shaping up to be one of the best modifications available, certainly one of the most elaborate. The preview trailer below highlights some of the gameplay mechanics in the tower defense mod and how much time and attention was put into creating it.

This is just a sample of some of the mods available for the PC version of Skyrim. Unfortunately, the closed networks and modification lockouts on the consoles means that owners of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions do not have access to these mods. The good news is that the Dawnguard DLC expansion is on the way, so new content will have you back in the breach and slaying dragons very soon.
