Do you like cheerleaders? Do you like cheerleaders with cute pink chainsaws? Do you like zombies? If you like all of the above, then there is a good chance that Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda51’s wonderfully eccentric Lollipop Chainsaw is a game that’s been on your radar for some time now. Combining all the ingredients to make a wonderfully camp experience in the vein of No More Heroes, this is a game that I know I will be purchasing at launch. However, if you live in or around the city of Toronto, you have a golden opportunity to pick up the game ahead of release and meet horror icon George A. Romero in the process. Curious? Read on for more details.

On Sunday, June 10, one of Toronto’s EB Games locations will be playing host to a launch party of sorts for Lollipop Chainsaw, complete with an appearance and autograph signing by Romero himself. That in itself would be incentive enough for most horror enthusiasts, however the other benefit to attending is the opportunity purchase the game two days before it is released everywhere else. Being the only person on your friends list playing it, and having your friends inundate you with envious (and possibly vulgar) messages, is a level of satisfaction like no other. Rounding off the in-store festivities is a zombie costume contest, so dress to impress!

George A. Romero is known for his acclaimed, social commentary-riddled zombie movies, but he is also no stranger to the world of video games. His influence on the zombie apocalypse genre aside, Romero himself has been immortalized as a zombie in the Call of the Dead map pack in Call of Duty: Black Ops. As anyone who encountered him will attest, he is extremely difficult to kill. In Lollipop Chainsaw, the high school the game takes place in is called “San Romero”, very likely a homage to the pioneer of the whole zombie phenomenon.

If you plan on attending the event on June 10, the EB Games is located at 267 Yonge Street, just south of Dundas Street W. The event takes place from 4 to 7 pm, and be sure to bring your receipt if you have pre-ordered the game in order to claim your bonus. If you can’t make it, Lollipop Chainsaw will be released on June 12 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
