First things first, be careful. Trying to gear up your character can be pretty pricey on the new frontier that is Blizzard-supported real money transactions between players in Diablo III. If you don’t watch what you spend, which you can easily do by watching your auction history, you could get in over your head. With that obvious stuff being said, there are a few things you need to know about setting up your account and how it all works.

When you first log in, you’ll need to go through some hoops that will include adding text message security for any type of purchasing outside of a balance. This should all be pretty easy as Blizzard has plenty of helpful faqs to make sure you get up and running. If you plan to only use a account fund, just add funds and go from there. Any funds that are added from something like PayPal can take 3 days to process, so if the money is needed right now, prepare a different way to add funds. You are also able to set up different payment methods, like credit cards, on your account so you can decide how to make purchases. I have a little gaming-only income that goes in a specific account, so I transferred that over. That ensures that there isn’t much for the hackers to take in the event of a security breach. It also ensures that I won’t go on a spending spree that brings tears to my eyes the next morning.

Actually searching the real money auction house is the same as the traditional gold auction house. Look for the items you want and bid or buyout based on the prices. Right now, it’s like the wild west in there. Some items are selling for 250 bucks while others are $1.25, often the same items with slightly different stats. Posting auctions works the same as the gold AH as well. Choose where you want the money to go, though, as you can’t take money from a funds account and transfer it to a PayPal account. The fees are all explained pretty clearly, and there is even an app for iOS that will give you a good idea of what your bottom line is. For that app, visit this link and get started on rolling in the riches.

If anything new comes up with the RMAH, or I find a way to hit it big and rich, I’ll post more in the future, for now, be responsible and enjoy this new frontier.
