HD remakes have become a common occurrence during this generation, giving gamers a chance to play what they might have missed in the last console cycle.  While these collections and one-offs have included titles mostly from first party publishers, Capcom is no stranger to the phenomenon, having released the Devil May Cry HD Collection.  Continuing that trend, Capcom has announced that an HD remake of the critical darling Okami will soon hit the market.

Scheduled for a vague fall release, Okami HD will release for the PlayStation 3 with PlayStation Move support and, most importantly, trophy support (including a platinum!).  Okami is a perfect fit for motion controls, as the well-received version of the game on Wii displayed, and those who only own a current generation Sony console will now have a chance to experience the game with both the traditional and motion control schemes.  The paint brush mechanic at the heart of the gameplay fits the Move wand perfectly and truly may be a better show of the peripheral than some of the proprietary Move games.

And the game’s beautiful art style should look even more stunning in HD, which makes this purchase a no-brainer if you haven’t picked up either iteration of the game.  I sadly missed the title during its first two releases but will not make that mistake on the third time out.  Even without a Move controller, I’m excited to finally experience a game that received quite a bit of fanfare during the PlayStation 2‘s life.  For those in the same boat, check out the reveal trailer over at the PlayStation Blog and look forward to downloading Okami HD on the PlayStation Network this fall for $19.99.

  1. Can’t wait for this! Okami ended up being one of my all-time favorite games. I even hunted import sites for the sound track. I just wish Clover Studio was still around.
