Sony has been slowly rolling out the information about their upcoming brawler, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and San Diego Comic-Con seems to be the perfect time to dole out a few more snippets of news. While no stages were revealed, Sony announced the inclusion of two characters many guessed would be in the game during a panel for the title.
As the screenshot above reveals, Jak and Daxter have joined the mayhem, though they will come as a packaged deal as in their self-titled series. Many of the duo’s familiar weapons will make an appearance in their Battle Royale arsenal. Jak will also be able to transform into Light and Dark Jak (most likely during his super attacks) and Daxter will play a role in the twosome’s melee attacks.
The second announced character has been long rumored, ever since voice actor Eric Ladin suggested it on his Twitter account. Infamous fans, it’s now official: Cole McGrath will be a playable option. Cole will be able to dip into his electric and ice powers, suggesting this is the benevolent Cole who players will control, but that still offers a dynamic move set. And, to much devastation, Cole will be able to summon an ionic vortex and sweep it across the field to destroy enemies.
Both options are sensible choices for the game, and while I hope to see more unexpected entrants, I’m glad their respective reveals are out of the way. I am definitely looking forward to using both characters, especially Cole, as I’m a huge fan of the Infamous franchises. They both look to have a varied enough set of attacks that some interesting combos can be set up. Still, the announcement was a bit anticlimactic, and I am hoping for some more surprises in the months to come before Battle Royale is release for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on October 23.
