Yesterday, Ubisoft announced the imminent arrival of a new DLC package for May’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Titled “Raven Strike,” the tactical shooter’s second content pack will include three campaign missions and a new Guerrilla mode map. Ubisoft intends this new DLC package to be a throwback to the classic Ghost Recon titles, and to reflect this nostalgia the company has made the maps larger, the missions more complex and increased the difficulty.
This homage to earlier titles in the franchise is actually surprisingly clear when you read the brief description of one of the new missions. In “Secure Dawn,” players will find themselves in a foggy marsh in Kazakhstan, unable to access any of their advanced technology. That predicament means no sensor grenades, drones or optical camouflage. Those who take on the mission will have to rely on their own wits to make it through the mission unscathed. The other two missions are not greatly detailed. One, “Cold Walker,” sticks you in a Russian train depot, and the other, “Argent Thunder,” places you within Moscow after sunset.
The new Guerrilla mode is similar to Call of Duty‘s Survival mode, or Gears of War‘s Horde mode. Players will be dropped into a foggy Russian countryside and must survive through fifty waves of enemies. Details like the available technology you’ll be able to employ or the layout of the map you will be on are, as yet, unannounced, but hopefully the game’s reliance on special gadgets will make this mode unique among the throng of others like it.
Both the new campaign missions and the Guerrilla mode map will be playable with up to four players. You can pick up “Raven Strike” when it releases on September 11th for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $14.99, or 1200 MS Points. The Future Soldier team is already hard at work on more DLC that is expected for release later this fall, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for updates regarding further content.
