With less than a month to go until Assassin’s Creed III swoops onto store shelves, there is news that Ubisoft has already been making plans for the inevitable DLC expansions. Previous games in the Assassin’s Creed, excluding the first, all received post-launch content. With the hype surrounding the third instalment proper, which features a new protagonist and storyline, it is easy to anticipate that the additional content will be plentiful. For those who wish to partake, there is always the option of purchasing it ad hoc when it comes out. However, Ubisoft has announced that there will be a better, and cheaper, way to keep the battle raging after the credits role.

Similar to a practice found that Rockstar has employed with their games, Ubisoft is offering a “Season Pass” for Assassin’s Creed III. This will effectively buy you all of the planned DLC expansion packs, of which there are currently five in the works. This news coincides with the announcement of the first expansion, titled “The Tyranny of King George.” This new single player storyline, split into three episodes, is an alternate history scenario involving George Washington. Instead of ¬†founding father and first president we know, he is presented here as a power-crazed tyrant who is bent on becoming king. Although the plot hasn’t been revealed in any great detail, it’s a safe guess that your actions in the game will involve killing him. It’s an interesting twist, that’s for sure.

The release date for “The Tyranny of King George,” as well as the other four DLC packs, have not yet been announced. However, Ubisoft has confirmed that planned expansions will include new maps and characters for the multiplayer mode. Those purchasing the Season Pass will also be granted early access to all new of the new content, typically a week earlier than the general release. The price for the Season Pass will be 2400 MSP or $29.99, and will be available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. The price of the pass is approximately 25% less than the combined cost of all the DLC when purchased separately, which makes it a good value for those who were going to buy it anyway.

The exact release date for the Assassin’s Creed III Season Pass has not yet been confirmed, however Ubisoft has stated that it would be within six months after the games launch. It has also been confirmed that all downloadable content will also be available for the Wii U version, however it is unclear if the Season Pass will also be offered on that platform. We’ll have to wait and see on that.
