Epic Games has announced that their newly minted Unreal Engine 4 will be available on the recently revealed Sony PlayStation 4 console. Surprised?

Most of us had a good idea this would be the case, what with the Unreal Engine 4 Real Time Elemental Demo being shown at the Sony PS4 reveal event just over two weeks ago, however Epic would like us to formally know that they will be providing their resources to PlayStation 4 developers in order to help them “harness the full power of its Unreal Engine 4 technology.”

Epic Games Founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney, added the following:

“Being on the ground floor of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Tools and Middleware program is part of our long-term commitment to Unreal Engine 4 developers, and we’re excited to help teams ship fantastic new games for PlayStation®4 … Unreal Engine 4 has been built from the ground up to take full advantage of high-end next-generation hardware capabilities.”

I’m already excited for the PlayStation 4. The next generation console drought has gone on long enough. In fact  the PS4 could end up looking like a cardboard box at this point and I’d probably still buy it.

Here’s the Unreal Demo bit from the PlayStation 4 reveal in case you missed it or wanted to watch it again.

  1. My first day 1 release console. I can’t wait. I’m a huge fan of Sony, PC and Nintendo gaming. The best of the best, best quality, hardware, reliability, cost, true exclusives not found on other platfroms like PC. Free online play, awesome subscription service (optional*) playstation plus. The hardware the PS4 has, the developer support the PS4 has, continued playstation free exclusive content like that found in Bungie’s Destiny game and they didn’t change my beloved dual shock 3 too much.

    Life is great!
