If you remember, I wrote up a game called The Devil’s Tuning Fork last December that used echolocation- or something very similar to it- as the means by which the player looked at the world. It was a wonderful experience that I thought should be explored more. Pulse by developer Pixel Pi seems to be doing exactly just that. The indie game relies not just on player created sound, but the sound of other beings- including the giant, monstrous thing that pops up at the end of the this trailer:

The team has started up a Kickstarter to help them push their project from prototype to product. They’ve also released a playable version of the game on Mac and Windows for people to try out themselves. Their Kickstarter indicates a Fall 2014 release if it’s successful. Considering how different this is from so many other games, let’s hope it is.
